  • Help, Poo problem....

My husband has just started primal living. He is up to day 11, and is having problems with his bowels. He hasn't had a bowel motion for 5 days, but is consistently passing a clear mucous/saliva consistency fluid from his bowels, along with a lot of wind. Has anyone had this problem, or have a suggestion as to remedy this? I don't want him to lose motivation, and be disheartened with his new lifestyle change. Apologies for the icky detail. Thanks in advance 😊

    What is he eating?

Has he gone very low carb, or zero fiber?

He is aiming to have around he 100g carbs a day. He generally has bacon and eggs for breakfast, salad for lunch and whatever I'm cooking for dinner- last night we had roasted lamb Shanks with celery, cauliflower, onions and mushrooms all roasted. Perhaps he does need to up his fibre.

Your description is symptomatic of low fiber, excess fat and possibly gut bacteria die off. Common for new primals. Fibrous veggies are probably more important to this diet than the wonderful meats and fats. No need to count the fiber content against the carb limit.

Fermented veggies are important to reestablish good gut bacteria and fiber is important to keep them well fed. They will reward you with good colonic fuel and good looking poop .

The above suggestions are good. I wouldn't rely on it long-term, but caffeine and nicotine gum would help with relief in the short term.
