  • How do you eat butter?

    Hi everyone,

I was wondering how you eat butter by itself: just plain or do you soften it and add spices etc. to it for more flavor.

    Thx!

    Well... I don't. Just eat butter. :P

I cook with it, or I put it on vegetables. Usually, spices are involved.
    yay!

On food or mixed in something. Never on it's own. Yuck.

I'm not going to lie- sometimes I nibble straight off the stick. I try not to though. But it happens. Generally I agree that butter should be mainly used for cooking or as veggie lube.

Eating butter is old school, now todays people are drinking it with some MCT oil in their morning coffee!

              I sautee food in it.
Sometimes if I'm having a particularly lean cafo steak, i like to spread KerryGold butter on it.
Over steamed veggies and baked potatoes.
Use it in recipes like banana bread.
Make ghee once in a while.
That about sums it up for me. I'm not really a heavy butter user.

Compound butters on a good steak are amazeballs. And I see vegetables as nothing but brightly colored butter-delivery vehicles. I also occasionally snack on it straight (cut into thin slices with a sprinkle of pink Himalayan sea salt) if a meal is a bit light in fat. Kerrygold goes on sale regularly and there's rarely less than 3 lbs (6 packages) in my freezer at any given time.

                    My kids eat it straight.

I usually use it to add fat to a meal.

When the butter comes out of the refrigerator I cut myself a pat and nibble on it, if I'm hungry.

Yeah, chowing on just butter is hardcore advanced paleo.

A few methods which are roughly the same thing: eating chunks of solidified coconut oil (my preference), drinking heavy cream, grass-fed butter in your coffee.

Butter isn't food. It's rendered fat. It's a cooking tool so foods don't stick to your pan, or a flavoring agent. Eating butter by the slice is like eating salt by the spoonful or taking a tablespoon to a bag of sugar. It's no different - lots of calories, not very much nutrition. Stick to eating real food and using butter as a tool, not a significant source of calories, and you'll reach your goals much more easily.

I disagree. Paleo is about eating real food. Butter is a processed, rendered fat, not a whole food. It's not unhealthy by any stretch, but it's silly to eat it as food. Again, would you take a spoon to a bag of sugar and start eating? It's really no different. Stuff like bulletproof coffee and the like is total faileo.

I actually never eat butter unless I eat it alone, sliver by sliver when I need the extra calories. I never use butter otherwise.
