  • Optimum time for fish oil & vitamin D3

    Is there any research with timing your fish oil & vitamin d3 ?

    Any studies or anyone's experience ?

    Just very curious as to have all before bed or have staggered during day?

      Vitamin D3 is absorbed best if taken with a meal.

      It's fat soluble, so stays in the body for months, half life is about 10 weeks, so a single dose a day is fine, or even a big dose once a week say, whatever's convenient :-)

        I have some D3 in my magnesium pills I take before bed. It doesn't effect my sleep.

          Fish oil is not as desirable as eating the fish itself. It tends to degrade and some say it can actually be harmful. Better to focus on food sources of omega 3 such as oily fish a couple of times a week.

            I take my D3 in the morning because I take magnesium at night. I can't remember were I got the info, but I remember reading that they should be taken separately to get the maximum absorption from both.

              This is mostly hunch, but VitD is a hormone and most hormones have domino effects so I take it midday to simulate peak UVB (winter only).

                Best to take Vit D early to midday, according to The Perfect Health Diet (p. 373). Has to do with circadian rhythms. I avoid fish oil and eat fish instead. I also watch my Omega 6 to 3 ratios so do not need a lot of excess 3.
