  • 'Give out statins with junk food'

"Fast food outlets should consider handing out cholesterol-lowering drugs to combat the effects of fatty food, say UK researchers."

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-10955522

Makes me suspect that the pharmaceutical industry is in cahoots with the fast food industry.

Statins in the water supply. Just to be safe.

          Whah? Huh? Ebbeh? *Squirrel noises*
Odd noises aside, I'm actually mildly surprised that they didn't suggest grinding it into the meat...

If one more person refers to fast food as being "fatty" I'm going to shoot everyone and then myself. From what I've seen, fast food tends to have very little fat, and most of what's there is the polyunsaturated "good fat" that CWtards love so much.

I guess that depends on your definition.

                  Whopper Sandwich 670 cals - 39 g fat - 51 g carbs - 28 protein
                  Big Mac 540 cals - 29 fat - 45 carbs - 25 protein
                  Carl's Jr Double Six Dollar Burger - 1520 cals - 111 g fat

AAAH - just one more reason to avoid fast food! It's full of even more bad stuff. Seriously that is really messed up. They have never even really tested it on pregnant women or children. Scary as hell.
If you are new to the PB - please ignore ALL of this stuff, until you've read the book, or at least http://www.marksdailyapple.com/primal-blueprint-101/ and this (personal fave): http://www.archevore.com/get-started/

They could tie the statin in with cardiac testing. Have a punch card, when you reach 100 servings of fast food you get a complimentary cardiac stress test in the back room and a discount on bypass surgery.

                      Disgusting

Don't worry, the "McStatin" recommendation was made on the basis of a meta-analysis of 7 statin clinical trials. The authors' conclusions in their own words:

This review evaluated statins in the treatment of patients without cardiovascular disease. It concluded that statins decrease the incidence of major coronary and cerebrovascular events and revascularisations, but not coronary heart disease and overall mortality [emphasis mine].
